Don’t get caught out. Employers need to get ready for the increase in the National Minimum Wage (NMW) and National Living Wage (NLW) on 1 April 2020.
The new rates of NMW/NLW need to be applied on the first pay reference period on are after 1 April 2020.
The new rates are per hour:
- 25 and over - £8.72
- 21-24 - £8.20
- 18-20 - £6.45
- Under 18 - £4.55
- Apprentice rate - £4.15
Apprentices
Apprentices are entitled to the apprentice rate if they’re either:
- aged under 19
- aged 19 or over and in the first year of their apprenticeship.
Example: An apprentice aged 22 in the first year of their apprenticeship is entitled to a minimum hourly rate of £4.15.
Apprentices are entitled to the minimum wage for their age if they both:
- are aged 19 or over
- have completed the first year of their apprenticeship.
Accommodation
The daily accommodation offset rate will increase to £8.20 per day or £57.40 weekly.
