Don't get caught out...recruiting interns, or workers for work experience, doesn't mean you can avoid paying the national minimum wage if it's due...

The term 'intern' has no legal status under national minimum wage law.

It is also worth noting that national minimum wage is payable if an individual is promised a contract of future work. Similarly the law is already clear that it is illegal to employ people on unpaid trial work periods to test out their suitability for the post for an excessive period of time or where there is no job at the end of it.
