  • RE: Partial Crypto Sell Off

Many thanks, that's what I expected. Now my question is how much I should put as the acquisition value. When I use the CGT calculator for shares on the HMRC website, under "How much did you pay for the shares?", what should I put? I've paid £5k in for 2018/19 for the assets, but haven't sold all of them. Would it be the proportion sold (13.5/20) multiplied by the original 5k, so £3375? Surely it wouldn't be £0 as I have parted with 5k after all. Thanks
  • Partial Crypto Sell Off

Hi there, I invested approximately £5k in crypto in 2018 and 2019. I have now decided to sell some, receiving approximately £13.5k of the £20k total assets. It has remained as crypto over the years and the value has obviously increased and decreased, though it has never increased more than the CGT for that year. However, now I'm taking out that 13.5k, I'm over the 3k limit for 24/25. Does this mean that I'll pay CGT on the 10.5k, or does the allowance for the previous years negate some of this? To complicate matters, I have only been filling out self-assessments since 21/22. Should I have declared the increase and decrease in prices in 21/22 and 22/23 (but not for previous years due to not having been registered)? Please could you advise how I should get this all correct, both for prior tax years, and for when it comes to the 24/25 self-assessment? Thanks
