RE: Self employed and starting a job
Thank you for your reply. Before I received your reply, I had called the HMRC and spoke with a member of staff who also consulted his colleague and I was advised that I should choose Statement A because my casual self-employment which is likely to generate very low income during my PAYE job, if any, and also because of this my being self-employed is not considered as a job for the purpose of filling the starter checklist in these circumstances. I had also been told that I should select answer 'No' in question 8 and 10 for that reason. Could you please confirm which statement is correct in my case and what answer I should choose in question '10' taking into account that my self-employment has not ended. I would like to make sure I choose the correct answers. Thank you very much. -
RE: Self employed and starting a job
Hi, I have been self-employed since 2012 and started full-time, fixed-term PAYE employment in May 2025. The PAYE job will be the main source of my income for the duration of the contract, but I may accept some additional work from self-emplyment during that time. I will also continue my self-employment after I end my PAYE job. When speaking with an HMRC agent, I was advised I need to choose option B on the starter checklist. Could you please confirm whether that is correct? Question 10 on the starter checklist says ' Since April have you received payments from another job which has ended. If yes, put an X in the statement B. If no, put an X in the statement A. ' If the correct statement is statement B, what answers (yes, or no) should I select in questions 8,9,10? Thank you.
