  • Working from home and mileage

Hello, Upon my return to work after maternity leave more than 3 yrs ago I've been working from home (a flexible arrangement due to childcare limitations making the commute on top of the working day impossible). They have provided me with a laptop to work on to make working from home possible and at present I do not claim any working from home expenses (for heating, electricity, internet for example). As part of my position I am occasionally required to visit another location for a few hours for research purposes. I've just been informed however that the mileage for these visits can only be claimed from the office, not my home which is my regular place of work, and that this is a requirement of HMRC. Where is this stated please, or am I in fact entitled to claim mileage from my home address as my usual place of work. Please advise!
