RE: Non UK tax resident: UK bank saving interest income
Hi HMRC, I am the similar situation with Teresa2243. I am a non-UK resident with interest income from the UK bank saving account in the tax year 2022/2023. This is my only UK income. I can't apply for split year treatment since this is only available for UK residents. However, SAIM1170 advises if I am not a resident in the UK, then UK bank interest and dividends interest are considered 'disregarded income'. Do I need to report these interest income arising in the UK? Thank you. -
RE: Is Non-resident shareholder required to file a tax return for declaring UK dividends
Hi HMRC, I am non resident and claim personal allowances(£12,570) as an EU citizen. Can I get a dividend allowance (6 April 2022 to 5 April 2023, £2,000) when my dividend income over my Personal Allowance (£12,570)? Thanks. -
RE: Banking Interest for Non-UK Tax Resident
Hi HMRC, I have similar situation with Ed Leung. Would you please clarify my question as below? 1. Before I arrived in the UK, I was a non-UK resident. I earned some interest income from UK bank. Do I need to report these interest income arising in the UK? 2. I found some information in the HMRC website. All of these stated that non residents have to pay tax on UK income. 2.1 (https://www.gov.uk/tax-foreign-income/residence) Non-residents only pay tax on their UK income - they do not pay UK tax on their foreign income. 2.2 (https://www.gov.uk/tax-uk-income-live-abroad) You usually have to pay tax on your UK income even if you’re not a UK resident. Income includes things like: -pension -rental income -savings interest -wages Does the non Resident need to report these income arising in the UK? Thanks. -
RE: Re-register for Self Assessment, if I registered for not self-employed last year.
Hi HMRC, Thank you for your reply. I have already applied for the National Insurance and I have a NI number already. I would like to confirm if I do need to get another NI number for my self employed job. Thanks. -
Re-register for Self Assessment, if I registered for not self-employed last year.
Hi Sir, I registered for Self Assessment and choose "Register if you're not self-employed" last year since I had to appy split year and I had an employment income. In this year, I start my self employed job, but I have continuous my employment job. Do I need to re-register for Self Assessment and choose "Register if you're not self-employed"? https://www.gov.uk/register-for-self-assessment/not-self-employed Thanks -
RE: Cash Reward from a foreign savings account (SA101 or SA106)
Hi HMRC, As I know, the accounts where the customer receives 'cash back' as a result of purchases made, is not taxable. There is a 1% cashback on your everyday debit card and contactless spending from my foreign saving account in Hong Kong. I think this 'cash back' is as a result of purchases made. Could you please clarify if this cashback is taxable? Thank you. -
RE: Self-Employment & Foreign Income
Hi HMRC, The situation above is similar with me. I am working remotely in UK for a Hong Kong clients as self-employment. As mentioned above, I have to fill in SA103. My self employed earning is more than £2,000, but I don't want to claim a Foreign Tax Credit Relief. -Should I need to fill in SA106, F6? or -I have to fill in SA106, F6. But I no need to put "X" in the column E? Thanks -

Freelance Income from Hong Kong
Hi HMRC, I am UK Tax Resident and as a IT consultant. I work in my UK home, and my clients are based in Hong Kong. My clients pay me money when I have completed the job. I will report my income to the Hong Kong tax authority. Do I need to register as a self employed and sole trader? How should I report my Hong Kong income to HMRC via SA103 or SA106? Can I have a self employed allowance in this case? Thanks. -
RE: Cash Reward from a foreign savings account (SA101 or SA106)
Hi HMRC, There is a 1% cashback on your everyday debit card and contactless spending from my foreign saving account in Hong Kong. I get this cashback after I become a UK tax resident. I want to clarify that how to fill in this kind of income in tax return. As it is foreign income, I think that I should fill this income in SA106. However, which part I have to fill in? Thanks.
