  • Pay self-assesment tax through tax code doesn't seem to work.

Hello I completed my 2021/22 self-assesment on 13 October 2022 and chose to pay through tax-code. The tax I owe is about £200. Despite doing this I haven't had any tax deducted from my salary so far. As I earn around £1000 per month, my salary is within Personal Allowance, therefore I don't get any tax deducted. The company I work for uses PAYE. I was hoping that after completing tax self-assesment and choosing pay through tax code, the tax I owe will start getting deducted from my next salary. Instead I recently received a message from HMRC asking me to pay the tax before 31 January 2022. Does that mean that I need to pay by 31 January next year to avoid penalties or will it start getting deducted at some point next year? Can I still set the tax I owe to be deducted from my wages? Thank you Adam
