RE: Canadian did not live or work in the UK for the last tax year
Hi, I'm neither a tax professional nor Canadian but perhaps this can help you since the themes sound similar. The US IRS requires form 8802 declaring/verifying that I am now a US resident and also a UK form (UK form 2002 - https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/850465/Form_US-individual_2002.pdf) requesting a non taxable (NT) status/code. It was not difficult but still slightly confusing. Once that went through, I did receive an updated tax code notice showing the NT status. Hope that is useful for you! -
Received someone else's HMRC PAYE correspondence: cannot forward and cannot phone HMRC
HMRC has erroneously included communication for another individual along with mine. I live outside the UK so am not able to call early in the morning UK time when the phone lines are less busy. I've called 3 times not and been on hold for over over 2 hours in total. I do understand that this is a busy time for HMRC but this looks to be a time sensitive matter for the intended recipient. Can I post it back to HMRC and if so, what is the best address to use? Any other guidance? I do want to help but am a bit hamstrung. -
