RE: What name to put on CGT return?
I didn't ask anyone to check individual tax records. I only wanted to know how HMRC deals with a person using two names, e.g. a maiden name at work (and thus in tax records) and a married name, e.g. on the title documents of a property. The Helpline assistant said he had never heard of such a case. Someone in HMRC must have come across such a case, so may I put the question again, please? -
What name to put on CGT return?
My wife and I have gifted part of a residential property, held jointly by us, to our two daughters. We need each to make a CGT return. The property was registered in my name and my wife's married name. My wife is known to HMRC under her professional name. Which name should she use on her CGT return? -
Tax on dividing ownership
Hi, I bought a flat in the UK in 2006. In 2024, I am dividing ownership of the flat three ways, gifting one third each to two of my daughters, and retaining one third myself. I consider that I am disposing by gift of two-thirds of the asset. Do I do the usual CGT calculation, and report two thirds of the gain and two thirds of the costs?
