  • RE: Self-Build VAT Refund (DIY Team)

I applied mid August 2022 and was paid mid February 2023. I wrote a letter outlining my concerns as I had not had an acknowledgment and couldn’t get through by phone. I didn’t have a reply. I did know that it was received as it had been tracked. I wrote to my MP whose staff contacted HMRC on my behalf. I’m not sure if my MP made any difference but my application was processed soon after. To be fair I think the department are probably doing their best. When I was contacted by telephone the member of staff was very good and clear about why VAT on two invoices weren’t paid as they were ‘pro forma’. I think the time for processing has speeded up since my claim was processed. I think this has been explained in previous posts on this forum.
  • RE: Self-Build VAT Refund (DIY Team)

I’ve written to my MP. I am sure if enough of us raise concerns something should be done to help the DIY staff. I feel sorry that government departments have been depleted to such a degree that they cannot serve the public well. It’s becoming a familiar story unfortunately.
  • RE: Self-Build VAT Refund (DIY Team)

If your receipt is attached to the email and has headed paper plus the usual requirements I.e. date and invoice number I would assume that’s ok. If it’s in the body of the email message itself then I think that is probably not ok. As it seems there are no answers from the DIY itself I hope that gives you some confidence. I will be contacting my MP as I have been waiting since August. Previous comments seem to say that it has been helpful.
  • RE: Self-Build VAT Refund (DIY Team)

I posted our claim form and it was received by the DIY team 15.08.2022. I have not had an acknowledgment and I also cannot get through on the helpline number. I wrote a letter of enquiry asking if our claim could at least be a knowled. No reply. Should I approach our MP?
