  • Pension Drawdown Tax Query

Hi , Can anyone confirm if HMRC made a mistake here? . I am still working , But i decided to make a drawdown on one of my pensions £68 K and i was aware i was to paying 40% tax , so i paid £27 K tax. This was during tax year 2023 / 2024. last month (Oct 2024) i now receive an additional tax charge ref XA006054402270 i am now asked to pay an additional £3 K ?. Here are the calculations that HMRC gave me. (job earnings £50,454.52 / tax 8245.98). (Pension Drawdown £68K tax £27K) (Total 118 K tax £35 K tax allowance only £3K should this be not £12,500 ???). ( Total taxable income £115 K tax at basic rate 20% £37,700 = tax £7K , tax at higher rate 40% £77 K = tax £31 K ) ( total tax should be £38 K but i paid £35 K ) so HMRC say i owe £3 K. If this is correct why did they not tax me correctly at that time ? . I hope its wrong ???. Thank You
