Thanks for that. We have filled out that on line application and we got a certificate. What you have kindly suggested is exactly what we have done. The certificate of residence came but it specifies in bold type that is NOT to be used for exemption from foreign tax! We have been told that we need a confirmation of residence NOT a certificate of residence. As I said before we are going round in circles. How do I get a confirmation of residence please. Any help gratefully received. We are at our wits end on this. Thanks.

We have discovered that it not a certificate of residence but a confirmation of residence. The certificate ( which we have now got)even says on it not to be used for tax relief purposes. We have so far failed to get anywhere I’m afraid. We have been told to fill in a certain form which we have done, we have written and telephoned NI and HMRC repeatedly. We have been on this forum. So far nothing. We have been trying since last November to get the correct documentation. We(you) have three years apparent so let’s keep trying. After all NI and HMRC are public bodies and we do have to have some faith that they will come good for us. Not holding my breath.

Thank you for your reply. I have already applied twice for a COR. The first application seemed to be lost as when I rang you I was told that there was no record of my application. I found this strange as I had an email receipt of the application. I was advised to apply again. This I have done and still have not received a COR despite waiting several weeks. I am at my wit's end. What do I do now? I don't understand the problem. I am a UK resident with a full NI contributions and I have always paid my local and national taxes. Please help.

Our flat sale has gone through and we have paid a deposit to French tax authorities pending a CoR from hmrc. I can’t seem to get one. Why?

Hi. We have had similar issues. We applied for CoR in November 2022. We got an email confirmation of the application. We waited 30 days before making an enquiry. When we rang the agent at hmrc said they had no record of the application. Strange as we had confirmation. He suggested we apply again. We did. Today I have had an automated response saying it was turned down. I live in UK, I’m fully paid up with NI and taxes. What do I do next please?
