  • RE: Medical insurance expense

hi there HMRC Admin 25. Thank you! I actually called yesterday. The medical expense is from an employer 4 years ago! I did not realise I had to inform HMRC I was no longer receiving this as thought the employer did that. I didnt realise it had followed on to my next employers and the confusion arised as my current employer offers Medical insurance but I dont have it.... :)
  • Medical insurance expense

Hi all, hoping for some guidance on this. When i first started at my job (June 2021), my Offer of Employment letter mentioned Company Medical Insurance as a benefit. I didnt really think much of it at the time or look into it. After the first tax year, I received a tax bill from HMRC for not paying enough tax. I assumed its because I changed jobs in the tax year (bill was only £100). Last year, I received another tax bill and saw medical insurance was on my tax summary as an expense. So naturally I thought I had the company medical insurance and didnt query (I didnt look further into my contract further regarding this). I enquired with HR about this recently and how to use it and they said I dont have it. I said but I am paying tax on it?? They dont know how its happened. This expense is again added for 2023-2024 as well as another unknown expense so have queried with HR. I have been in the UK nearly 6 years but am not massively clued up on all of this. What would happen from here? Does my employer have to tell HMRC I was not entitled to this expense so overpaid. Do I then get a refund for the last 2 years paying this? Is it too late? Do I have to notify HMRC? Any insight would be fab, thank you!
