RE: UK Tax on Australian Superannuation
Thank you. Yes, I understood -at last - that the pension should be reported in the UK but wasn't clear on how it would be defined - unremittable seemed incorrect because as you say I have chosen to leave it in Australia. That problem aside, I have been requested by HMRC to complete and submit several years' returns. I have traced, downloaded and completed some of the required forms. These are all in pdf format. Is it possible to upload the pdf files to HMRC or should they be printed out and returned by post? Also, if they are printed, is single-sided or double-sided preferred? Would appreciate your advice please. -
RE: UK Tax on Australian Superannuation
I am resident in the UK and receive a small regular widow's pension from my husband's Australian employer. The pension is paid into my Australian bank account and remains there and used when visiting my family and friends in Queensland. I understand that the pension is taxable in the UK but find the self assessment "foreign" pages confusing. The pension is not really "unremittable", (rather it is unremitted) in that I'm not "UNABLE to transfer" it to the UK, I prefer to leave it in my bank account until I'm able to make the trips. Can you advise how this pension should be recorded in the "foreign" pages please.
