Overpaid Income Tax recieved for deceased father, then Income Tax owed bill recieved?????
I recieved a payment for overpaid taxes from yourselves for my deceased father, then just 2 months later I recieve a bill for tax owed for 23-24??? I assume that tax allowance is calculated on a yearly basis by yourselves (hence the P60) and then that amount is deducted by yourselves (as he is not employed) from any pension payments recieved. On that assumption it appears you have made the miscaculation during his life, therefore the debt, and error, is your liability not mine. I apologise if my assumptions are incorrect, however, for me to decide whether or not to pay this I need to know the following: • Who calculated his tax allowance based on his pensions? • Who took that tax allowance from his pensions each month? • Who is responsible for the error and why has it only just been flagged? • Why would you issue tax owed by yourselves then suddenly find tax owed to you? Forgive me if I appear stupid, but common sense says that if you are looking into a deceased persons account you would CHECK EVERYTHING at the same time and deduct the amount owed to you from the amount owed to him before issuing a cheque? I look forward to recieving this information from yourselves
