FURTHER QUESTIONS ON THE FORM OF SA109
Hi HMRC Admin,
My case is:
(1) I stayed in Hong Kong from 6 Apr 2022 to 13 Nov 2022 without leaving Hong Kong (Overseas Part)
(2) I came to UK on 14 Nov 2022, stayed in UK hotel and searched for renting an apartment (Overseas Part, as split year begins on 3 Dec 2022)
(3) I rented an apartment on 3 Dec 2022 in UK and now I am still living in it (I am going to claim split year treatment for 2022/2023, split year - UK part started on 3 Dec 2022 as I have a home in UK on 3 Dec 2022)
For Box 10, the SA109 notes states that "If you’re claiming split year treatment, and you’ve put ‘X’ in box 3, the entry in box 10 should only be for days spent in the UK for the OVERSEAS part of the year."
My further question is:
For the purpose of filling Box 10 of SA109, may I clarify once again whether I put 19 days in the box (days between 14 Nov 2022 and 2 Dec 2022, treated as overseas part but I am in UK) is correct or not?
Thanks and regards,
KI Chan

Hi HMRC Admin,
I received cash rebates / promotion cash credits of GBP 80 from foreign banks. I have foreign interest income from foreign banks of over GBP2,000.
Should I 'group' cash rebates of GBP80 with foreign interest income of >GBP2,000 and put the total of >GBP2,080 in boxes under "Interest and other income from overseas savings" of SA106 Page F2?
Thanks and regards,
Ki Chan

QUESTION ON GIVE NOTICE ON ALLOWABLE CAPITAL LOSS
Hi HMRC Admin,
According to SA108 notes, it states that to give notice for telling HMRC that you’ve made an allowable capital loss in the tax year, a 3-letter code is required.
I have made a loss on US listed ETFs in the tax year 2022/2023.
Q1. As there is no specific code for allowance capital loss, should I put a 3-letter code "OTH" (Other Claim) on Box 28 of CG2 of SA108 as a give notice for telling HMRC about allowable capital loss?
Q2. And then to provide details about such loss on US listed ETFs on Box 54 of CG4 of SA108?
Thanks and regards,
Ki Chan

QUESTION ON DIVIDEND FROM FOREIGN COMPANIES
Hi HMRC Admin,
I got some dividend from US listed ETFs. I bought those US listed ETFs from a Hong Kong bank.
Q1. When I fill the respective country code in column A of SA106, shall I fill in USA instead of HKG?
Q2. 30% of tax is taken off before giving me the remaining 70% dividend. So shall I put 30% tax in column C "Foreign Tax taken off and paid"?
Thanks and regards,

Hi HMRC Admin, I have foreign interest income of over GBP2,000 but foreign dividend income of less than GBP2,000. For foreign interest income, I shall put the amount under "Interest and other income from overseas savings" of SA106 Page F2 and 3. For dividend income, I shall put the amount in Box 6 "Foreign dividend (up to GBP2,000) and Box 7 "Tax taken off foreign dividends" under "Interest and dividends from UK banks and building societies" of SA100. Kindly please confirm whether my understanding is correct. Thanks,

Hi HMRC Admin, I bought a 3-year Hong Kong Government Bond ("iBond") whose interest are paid semi-annual and principal is repaid in full at maturity. Regarding interest income, should I put this Hong Kong Government Bond interest income (together with Hong Kong bank interest income, if any), under the box named "Interest and other income from overseas savings" on Page F2 of SA106? Thanks

Hi HMRC Admin 19,
Thanks for your reply.
However, I still have question on LOSSES on disposal of offshore NON-REPORTING funds (in my case is US listed ETFs).
Regarding IFM13550, it states that:
(1) any loss arising (from offshore NON-REPORTING funds) can be relieved only as a CAPITAL LOSS;
(2) the effect of this is that the capital loss cannot be offset against offshore income gains
My question:
As loss can be relieved only as CAPITAL LOSS, should I fill in such losses on Box 23, Box 24, Box 25 and Box 27 of SA108 as well as provide computation working sheet for each disposal of offshore NON- REPORTING funds?
Thanks and regards,
Ki Chan

Hi HMRC Admin 10,
Thanks for your eMail.
Sorry I made typo mistake.
For LOSSES on disposal of offshore NON-REPORTING funds (in my case is US listed ETFs), not offshore reporting funds, should I fill in such losses on Box 23, Box 24, Box 25 and Box 27 of SA108 as well as provide computation working sheet for each disposal of offshore NON- REPORTING funds?
Thanks.

Hi HMRC Admin 8, I further check the HMRC Internal Manual and would like to clarify how to report the LOSS on disposal of offshore reporting funds. According to IFM13550, no loss is to be treated as arising on a disposal and that any loss arising can be relieved only as a capital loss In such case, should I fill in LOSSES on disposal of offshore reporting funds (in my case is US listed ETFs) on Box 23, Box 24, Box 25 and Box 27 of SA108 as well as provide computation working sheet for each disposal of offshore reporting funds? Thanks. Ki Chan
