  • rebate company scam

Last year I stupidly signed up for a tax rebate app and applied to get wfh repayments for clothing and equipment. I received the money & the company took their 30% cut. I recently logged into HMRC and they are asking me to fill out a tax self-assessment which I specifically asked the company to inform HMRC I am not self-employed. I am now concerned after reading about reviews of the company & people having to pay back the rebates minus fees and plus interest. HMRC haven't yet asked me to repay but might well do between now and the end of the year. I want to be upfront and tell them know I don't need a self-assessment and that I think it was a scam and may have been overpaid or should I leave it and wait for them to contact me? or should I call the fraud line ? there are new laws coming into place for situations like this Taxpayers given stronger protections to prevent them being caught out by third-party tax rebate firms [Link Deleted by Admin]
