  • Payments Due on account for 2021-22

    Hi I'm now doing my self assessment for 20/21 and am doing it after the usual deadline of 31/01/22 as per the extension provided due to covid . However I've just noticed that, for the first time, I have new amounts due for 21/22: First payment on account for 2021-22 - due by 31 January 2022 Second payment on account for 2021-22 - will be due by 31 July 2022 I've never seen this before. Usually I fill in my tax return each year and then pay each year. What has changed to incur this upfront payment for 21/22 tax when the 21-22 tax year has not ended yet? Thanks
  • Smoke, CO and Heat Alarms

    Hi On the tax return, are the cost of Smoke, CO and Heat Alarms allowed expenses? And are they to be added under "property repairs and maintenance", "other allowable expenses" or "cost of replacing domestic items"? Also - what if you have added to the safety of the property by increasing the number of alarms. Where does that cost go? Are initial purchases and replacements treated differently here? thanks
