Please advise if I need to register for a self assessment as I have never previously registered. I am a UK citizen but currently work in the US full time - the salary from my job in the US is the only income I receive and for UK tax purposes I would be considered a non-resident for 23/24. However, I recently submitted and paid capital gains tax on my share of a sale of a property in 23/24 in the UK. Will I therefore need to submit a self assessment?

Thanks. I've used this tool and it is still not clear to me. I've already paid the capital gains tax but I've answered 'yes' to question 8. 'Do you need to pay any Capital Gains Tax?' and the result says: You MAY need to send a Self Assessment tax return to pay Capital Gains Tax. Based on your answers, you have Capital Gains Tax to report. If the CGT is already paid and I have no other income, do I still need to register?

Hi
As the CGT has already been reported, no.
