I have owned my house for 20 years. For the last 8 years I have lived with my girlfriend in her own house. My younger brother continued to live in my house rent free. I have now sold my own house. I believe that I can nominate my old home as my main residence for CGT purposes. Is my understanding correct, and if so, do I get full relief for the entire 20 years ?

Hi FWD,
You need to nominate within 2 years of the change and as you are outwith this, full residence relief will not apply - Capital Gains Manual
Thank you.
