Can someone please advise if you are allowed to deduct as an expense the cost of accountants fees for the preparation of the cgt real time report online against the gain on the disposal of a residential property.

Hi Rebecca Leff
No as this is not related to the actual sale of the property

Hello, thank you for your reply. However, i find this very odd considering it is a report that is now mandatory under these circumstances and separate and additional to the completion of a self assessment return. We therefore charge a separate fee as our clients employ our services to complete on there behalf. The same as they employ estate agents and solicitors (which are allowable). Can you double check this rule please as it does not seem correct. thanks

Hi Rebecca Leff,
The expenditure must have been incurred wholly and exclusively for the purposes of the acquisition or disposal.
The preparing of the Capital Gains report does not fall under this:
CG15250 - Expenditure: incidental costs of acquisition and disposal
Thank you.
