Rental until sale of main residence

Hi there, we're planning on moving house but plan to rent in the new town first to try and find the ideal house. We won't be selling our current house until we find a suitable house in the new town. What is the capital gains position for the sale?

HMRC cannot comment on future events as legislatoin and/or plans may change. However, based on current legislation, CGT will be likely as it has not been your only residence for the whole period of ownership.
