we own a flat which we will shorty be selling after carry out work similar too when we brought the flat the flat is some way from our home so we will be staying in a hotel as we did when we brought the flat seven years ago. I understand traveling expense can be deducted, what about hotel bills and the traveling when we brought the flat is any of this deductible

You cannot set the cost of staying somewhere against capital gains arising from the disposal of the property.  
Please have a the guidance at CG15150 to help you determine what is allowable expenditure.
