Hi We are IFAs where some of our clients have discretionary managed services where many transactions take place over the course of a year, sometimes over 100. We have been told by clients that they have to report every single transaction on the online self-assessment system where this is required, i.e. mostly if there is a taxable gain. For those clients submitting paper returns they simply report the overall level of gain. This creates considerable work for people who chose to return online, is the only way to report the consolidated gain instead to file a paper return? Thanks

Hi
As part of substantiating the reported gains, we ask for evidence to be attached as a pdf file, such as a calculation of how the gain arose.
For paper tax returns, supporting evidenence is still required, but in a paper format.
Sa108 guidance advises ""You must send us your computations, valuations, specified claim forms and any working sheets with the ‘Capital Gains Tax summary’ pages of your tax return.
Fill in all the boxes on the form that apply to you.
Do not cross through any boxes or write ‘see attached’ in them"".
Thankyou.

Hi, thanks for that. In a paper assessment we can instruct clients to attach the tax reporting from their investment platform providers to save inputting each individual transaction. This doesn't appear to be possible for online submissions, is this the case? Thanks

Hi,

Customers are able to send additional information as electronic PDF attachments when they file their SA returns online. No other type of online attachments will be accepted by the department.

More details are provided in the following guidance:

SAM126040 - Returns: filing returns online: filing attachments online

Thank you
