In 2023/4 I made a Capital Gains loss and no Capital Gain. Should I register the loss now, in my 2023/4 return, for future offset against a Capital Gain? Alternatively, should I wait until I make a Capital Gain in a future year, and register the loss then for offset against that year's gain?

Hi Wing Chung Tam,
You set your loss arising in the same tax year as the gain against the gain.
You can set the annual exempt allowance against the gain and carry forward the unused losses.
Thankyou.

Hi Lou Valdini,
If not on your tax return, you will need to send in a letter with a calculation showing the details you will then receive an acknowledgement when accepted.
Thank you.

Hi Nicholas,
Yes delcare it now, as it needs to be reported within 4 years in order for you to use it a later date.
Thank you.
