Hello, my husband and I paid an accountant to work out CGT due on the sale of a rented out property. The property was sold in June 2023 and we reported and paid approx £9k each in CGT in July 2023. We are now doing our self assessment for 23/24 and have duly filled out all the CGT numbers in the CGT section and crossed referenced with the CGT form already submitted to Inland Rev. My final self assessment calculation says I am owed approx £9k tax back as I have overpaid CGT!! Very nice but I'm struggling to believe this, even though we have made substantial pension contributions to try and offset some tax. Have spent hours pouring over it. Nothing is obvious.
