We bought a house in 2000 and lived in it until 2010 as I moved abroad to Gibraltar for work reasons as part of the RAF. In 2010, we rented out our house and have continued to do so until now. We are now selling the house so CGT is due. However, I’m sure CGT isn’t applicable for the first 5 years whilst I was employed by the RAF and living abroad but can’t find clarification on this before a house sale declaration is made. Rental income has been declared.
