Hello, I am a UK resident and considering selling shares in a publicly traded company listed on the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX). I purchased shares in the same company on two different occasions, but I no longer have the original documentation for these purchases. My securities company can only provide transaction records from the past 7 years, but I have held the stock for longer than that. 1. How should I report the purchase date and price for CGT purposes when I have incomplete records for both purchases? 2. Would the **share pooling** method apply in this case, and how can I accurately calculate my CGT liability if I’m missing some historical purchase information?

Hi,
You would need to check with the Stock Exchange for the original purchase price.
Thank you.

Hi HRMC Admin, Thank you for your response. I contacted the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, and they have informed me that they cannot provide information on individual transactions and advised me to contact my broker directly. Unfortunately, my broker can only retrieve records from the past 7 years, and my stock purchases date back further than that. Given this situation, could you advise on how I should proceed with reporting Capital Gains Tax if the original purchase price cannot be obtained? Is there an alternative method for estimating the purchase price or calculating CGT in such cases? I appreciate your guidance on this matter. Thank you.

Hi ,

You would have to estimate their value using a just and reasonable estimation .

Thank you .
