I purchased a foreign holiday home some years ago, at the time I paid the seller an amount in cash to purchase furnishings and white goods; I have subsequently sold the property with furnishings and white goods included in sale price. Is there any way this can be reflected in my declaration of purchase and sale to reflect the true gain/loss on the final sale for cgt purposes? Secondly, can photographic evidence be used in demonstrating improvements/additions (such as building a swimming pool etc) as some records have been destroyed. Thanks.

Hi zontes,
If you have no evidence of the costs for the improvements then you cannot claim these against the capital gain. you cannot claim the cost of the cash purchase for the white goods as this was not a condition of the sale otherwise it would have been included in the purchase agreement.
Thank you.
