I reported a capital gain from the last tax year in July, using the real-time reporting system. I am confident in the calculation and the information I provided, but I have heard nothing back since then and it appears to still be stuck in the 'received' stage. I have already tried phoning HMRC but received very little information or reassurance when I did so, other than confirmation that my report was indeed received and that there was a backlog. Is that correct and how long is this backlog? I am very anxious that the payment deadline of January 2025 will come and go and I will still not have heard anything or had any way to pay the tax I owe. Is there any way I can effectively push this along or to pay my tax without a reference code? I just do not know what else to do and am desperate to avoid a late payment fine if I have not heard anything in time.
