My parents are thinking of gifting the property, which they jointly own, to me. They have owned the house for 20 years. Of those 20 years, the house has been my mother's main home but only 10 years for my father due to work. I know that my mother qualifies for Private Residence Relief and won't have to pay CGT when she gifts her share of the property to me but my father is liable to pay CGT for the 10 years he has not lived in the property. If my father gifts his share of the property to my mother (I think that there would be no CGT liability here since it would be between spouses) and my mother then gifts her 50% share of the property as well as the share she acquired from my father to me, would she still qualify for Private Residence Relief (for both her 50% and the newly acquired share)?
