Hi, We are an agent for a client (A) who is power of attorney for someone (B). B has now sold a residential property so A will need to complete a 60 Day CGT Return on behalf of B. However, when trying to complete a Return online for A, we are only given 3 options as to who we are completing a Return for: Your client - Who is not a personal representative. A person who made the disposal before they died - Your client is a personal representative. The estate of a person and the property was sold after they died - Your client is a personal representative. The second option does not work as the next question refers to questions about the person who has died, whereas B is well and truly alive. Does A need to do a paper Return? In which case, they'll need to wait around 12 months (HMRC's current processing time) to get a payment reference to pay the tax? Is there any other alternative way to pay the tax when submitting the paper Return? Thanks in advance. Paperclip99

Hi Paperclip99,
Please refer to:
Report and pay your Capital Gains Tax
You need to wait for the payment reference to ensure it is correctly allocated.
Thank you.
