Presumably you are trying to complete a document sent to you by the party making the customs declaration. If so this will be a commercial document so you can usually check their website or contact them to ask what information they are looking for. A UK import procedure is usually the code for the type of import you are making ie is it a permanent import, a temporary import , is there a specific reason for the import etc. they are listed as codes on the customs declaration service (CDS) data elements DE1/10 and DE1/11 .

Hi,

As declarations are legal documents we are unable to advise what information to add.

You can check below for guidance or, alternatively, get a customs agent to help.

Making a full import declaration

Get someone to deal with customs for you

Thank you.

You haven’t specified what type of import this is so the method varies slightly if it’s road , air or sea freight. Customs declarations are submitted electronically there is no form to fill in. A full customs declaration is quite complex and specialist software is usually needed. Many importers use a customs clearance agent who will be able to complete the declaration for you as well as deal with the port or airport authorities to release the goods to you. They also have means to pay customs any duty and import VAT due Links provided in the previous post by HMRC admin 19. If on the other hand it’s goods imported via a courier they will usually do the customs clearance for you as part of the shipping services. If they don’t have enough information they would normally contact you to provide details .

Hi Hello24,
For any postal imports, customers are usually contacted by Royal Mail, Parcelforce or the courier company if they need to pay any VAT, duty or delivery charges (‘handling fees’) to receive their goods.
They’ll send a bill stating exactly which fees they need to pay.
Customer needs to contact the courier if this is a postal import.
Thank you.
