We are selling our second home in France and would like to bring a few of our possessions, some furniture and small household items, back to the UK. Most of these items were taken to France from the UK over 25 years ago, the sofa for example, is almost 40years old (sentimental value). I see that we may be able to get relief on any duties and VAT as we are re-importing however the evidence required may prove difficult to produce . My question is, if we have to go down the declaration route how do we value our old, worn out, possesions that would satisfy customes/HMRC? Have scoured the internet and just ended up back in the same place with no real answers.

Perrsonal Possesion Valuation is subjective , but 6 methods are used https://www.gov.uk/guidance/prepare-to-work-out-the-customs-value-of-your-imported-goods#how-to-work-out-the-customs-value-of-your-imports
