My EU citizen son is a student in the UK and I would like to buy a property in the UK for under his name with usufruct under my name. I'm also an EU citizen. Basically I would like him to be the owner and I would like to have the usufruct rights. Would this be possible? I'm guessing most likely it should but I'm wondering if I should have the usufruct established whether in my home country (Germany) or in the UK. I would appreciate any advice. Best, Esra

Hi,
Please note that the term ‘usufruct’ is not something that applies to the UK.
If you are buying a UK property you would need to follow the UK rules under the beneficial owner guidance here:
TSEM9120 - Ownership and income tax: legal background: ownership - legal owner
TSEM9130 - Ownership and income tax: legal background: ownership - beneficial owner
Thank you.
