I am on 40% tax and my wife is 20%. We both own our rental property 50/50. Am I right in saying if I want to give my wife a larger percentage of our rental income I have to prove that she has some sort of higher percentage claim to the property. OR does that not matter and I can just give her a higher percentage in the Form 17 even although she is 50%? Thanks Jim

Thank you for your question.
As you have stated the rental property is in joint names between your Wife and yourself, a Form 17 would be the appropriate form to complete as you are looking to disclose rental income in uneven shares.
