Trying to find a clear answer to this question please. The mortgage on the house my partner & I live in is in my name. My partner pays a monthly contribution to me for the mortgage (way less that my mortgage payments), he also pays me half our bills each month. I need to know if his payments to me are classed as rent a room income? I understand that if it is & above £7,500 I will need to declare it.

Hi,

If you live with your partner and he contributes towards the mortgage as part of his share of the household bills, there is no question of this being treated as income from property and you do not need to declare this.

We have corrected our original reply and are sorry if we have caused any inconvenience.

We have also amended this thread to prevent any further confusion.

Thank you.
