Joint ownership and unequal rental income

Hi. I understand from previous posts that to enable my wife and I to receive unequal shares of rental income from a jointly owned rental property, we only need to submit a form 17. It seems that no formal deed of assignment is required between a married couple. Please confirm my understanding.
