My Husband was added to my BTL property half way through the Tax year - the share of the income earnt from the rent for the 5 month period he joined is too little for him to submit a tax return. Do i now submit the tax return for the full rental income for the whole year - or do i do 7 months full and then 5 months half ( as this is what was shared)? It is on a 50/50 share. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Gem1x,
Thank you for your question.  You will need to declare the rental income and expenditure that you received for the first 7 months of the tax year plus the 50/50 share for the following 5 months.  Although your husband is not completing a tax return they will still need to report their share of the income/expenditure to us.
Thank you.

Thankyou for your reply. How does he report his share if he is not filling in a tax return? Thankyou

Hi,

Your husband can write to us with a breakdown of their share of rental income and expenditure for the period in question.

Thank you .
