Expenses outside of tax year

My tenants left at the end of April this year after which we completed some make good work and painting etc. can any of this be claimed against the previous tax year or will it all need to be claimed net year? Thanks

We can advise that these expenses cannot be claimed in the previous tax year and should be claimed in the next tax year if the rental business is continuing.
