Hi, Me and my husband bought a property under Buy To Let Interest Only Mortgage in July 2022. This is our 1st time investment. Please can you advice can we claim the legal fees such as Conveyancing Fee, search fee, bank transfer fee, land registry fee, etc (all charges by the solicitor) for this buy to let property? We paid someone to clear the garden waste with cash, can I claim as maintenance fee without an invoice? I made a payment for the Voluntary NI Contribution to fill the NI gap, can this be one of the expenses of my self assessment to off set the tax? If I made mistake in the self assessment form, what will happen to me if I genuinely do not aware of what mistake I made? Thank you.

Hi,
For details on allowable expenses, please see the following link:
Allowable expenses
If you make a mistake on your return, you have 12 months from 31 January due date to submit an amendment.
Thankyou.

Hi, thank you for your reply. But I still confuse of where should I fill or should I fill in the Voluntary NI Contribution? And How do I know I made mistake after I submit the Self Assessment Form? Will HMRC inform me? Thank you.

Hi Confuseooi Ooi,
Thank you for your further question. You would not include any voluntary NI contribution within the UK property pages of  the tax return and you could not claim this as as an expense against your rental income.
Thank you.
