We no longer have a branch near us to discuss a new deal with the BTL provider. Can we claim travelling expenses as this trip will be purely and only to get a new BTL Mortgage? Thanks

Hi,

Thank you for your question.

Travelling expenses must come under the ‘wholly & exclusively’ rule.

For more information, please refer to the Property Income Manual at https://www.gov.uk/hmrc-internal-manuals/property-income-manual/pim2010.

Please also see https://www.gov.uk/hmrc-internal-manuals/property-income-manual/pim2220
for information regarding travelling expenses.

Thank you.

Hi HMRC Admin 17, I have just read those links you have mentioned and the trip to discuss the BUY To LET Mortgage is whole and exclusively for the rental business, We need the Mortgage for the rental business, so I understand that this mileage is allowable, can you confirm? Thanks

Hi,

Thank you for your further question.

As long as the travel undertaken falls within the 'wholly and exclusively for the property business ' requirements and
the journeys  are not for a mixed purpose (EG. for both business and pleasure) then you would be entitled to make a business mileage claim .

Thank you.

Hi Admin, Thanks for confirming. The travel will be wholly & exclusively to negotiate a new BTL mortgage deal. Thanks,
