I joint own a rental property that doesn’t have a mortgage with two other family members. Can the income I receive be paid to my wife instead of me as it would help reduce my income tax obligations.

Hi ,

Thank you for your question.

The person liable to pay tax on rental income is the person who is entitled to receive the income.

The person that is entitled to receive the income is the beneficial owner.

As your wife is not a beneficial owner of the property she can not receive the property income
on your behalf to reduce your tax obligations.

Thank you .
