My wife is intending to disclose under the Let Property Campaign. At one point there was a gap between tenants of around 2 years. (Prior to Property Allowance, which started 6 April 2017). Can the normally allowable expenses (council tax, management charges etc) be claimed for this period, please? If so, losses would be created. Can these be set against lettings income for the following years? Thank you

Hi,

Thank you for your question.

You can claim normally allowable expenses when there was a gap in tenants if, in the period the property was empty,
your were actively looking for a new tenant and intended to continue the rental business.

You will find more information on this @ :

PIM2500 - Beginning and end of a rental business: contents  .

Thank you.
