Only Fans VAT problem caused by Only Fans not paying VAT until you have submitted a return and shown them the return filing. This does not work with Cash Based Accounting and MTD. The problem is that I cannot create the VAT return as the VAT invoices to Only Fans will not have been paid as mentioned above. Under Making Tax Digital and Cash Based Accounting scheme Sage Cloud Business accounting needs to have received the invoice payments including VAT before it will even create a MTD VAT return. So the figures are not even there yet in Sage to construct the MTD VAT return as Only Fans will not pay until the return is filed with HMRC. How am I supposed to get over this seemingly insurmountable chicken and egg problem caused by Only Fans Lack of trust to pay VAT on my generated invoice even though I have a VAT registration number and can account and action all of it in Sage Business Cloud Accounting only once the invoice payment and VAT portion has landed?

Hi.
This is an issue you would need to take up with Only Fans.
As a VAT registered business there is a requirement to charge VAT on your supplies.
If you are using Cash Accounting then there is only a requirement to account for the VAT only once you have received payment for your supply.
Please see the guidance below:
How the scheme works

The VAT Rules are clear and I can see what to pay. MTD can not work with Only Fans. The reason is that MTD Cash Accounting requires the software to have picked up transactions including the VAT paid by Only Fans before it can calculate the VAT return. Only Fans will not release the VAT until the VAT return has been submitted to HMRC and copied to them, this is a ridiculous situation how can I calculate an MTD VAT return if Only Fans have not released the VAT for my invoices? There will be no VAT for the software to pickup and use. Why are only fans not sticking to the MTD rules? Only Fans ignore any and all requests for acknowledgement and assistance.

Hi ,

As stated earlier you would need to resolve this with Only Fans.

Being VAT registered means there is a requirement to submit your MTD returns by the deadlines and if Only Fans are preventing you from meeting this obligation then please contact them about this.

Thank you .
