Hello, I am a EU citizen and worked for several years in the UK during which I made monthly NI contributions. This started before Brexit so I fall under the withdrawal agreement. I’m back to my home country (Portugal) and need the UK to send/confirm my NI records in order to be eligible for maternity leave pay. The Portuguese social security has requested my S041 (E104) to the UK through EESSI in late January/early February, but despite them having insisted a couple of times, HMRC has yet to respond to the request. Unfortunately, until HMRC responds, my process (and maternity pay) cannot move forward. Is there anything I can do to speed up the process, besides asking for updates from the PT’s social security which I have? Is there a way to track the status of a request made through EESSI (I have the request’s international ID number) or follow up with HMRC on this? I appreciate any help on this. Many thanks!

Hi MF,
We are unable to provide a timescale for the S041.
Please contact the National Insurance helpline and provide them with the International ID number to check on the progress of the application. The contact number is +44 (0) 191 203 7010. Lines are open Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm.
National Insurance: general enquiries
Thank you.

Hi MF, How long did it take for this to resolve? I am having the same problem with a maternity leave pay application in Spain, where social security have been waiting several months for the UK to send a form evidencing my 10+ years of National insurance contributions via EESSI S041.
