I completed an online CF83 on 9/4/24 to request payment of Class 2 NIC whilst I was working overseas for tax years 07/08, 08/09, 09/10. However on checking the HMRC response times online it states I probably won’t receive a response until 24/5/2025. This will take it beyond the cut off date of 5/4/2025 to pay backdated NIC for years between 2006 to 2016. As my application has already been made prior to 5/4/25 is this cut off date waived due to HMRC backlog being the problem? It seems unfair to miss out on being able to make up these years due to backlogs within the system. Any clarification would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Helen Wilkinson,
We can confirm that you will not be penalised in any way because of the length of time it might take for you to receive a reply from our International Team.
As long as we have received your CF83 application form, if you have any shortfalls of voluntary National Insurance contributions then you will be given extra time to pay if you receive your reply close to or after 5 April 2025.
Thank you.
