Hi HMRC Admins, I was employed in the entire tax year 2023-2024 and my employers had deducted Class 1 contributions from my pay. During the same period, I was also a sole trader but my turnover was less than £1,000 in total from all self-employments, and of course, my taxable profits are less than £1,000 too, I have checked my NI record and it is "Full year" for the period 2023 to 2024. Would you please advise if I still need to voluntarily pay Class 2 National Insurance contributions for my self-employments to protect my entitlement to contributory benefits like State Pension? Many thanks! Best regards, Herman

Hi
If the 2023/24 is recorded as a full year through class 1 contributions, you would have an additional qualifying year towards your state pension entitlement. Therefore, you would not need to pay class 2 to gain a qualifying year for 2023/24, as it is already full, due to the class 1 paid.
