Because of working overseas and parenting I have only ever paid 12 years of Nic from 1976/77 until 2004/5. Assuming that is ok to qualify? Also would like some advice as to correct form to fill in to see if I am entitled to any Nic credits while I was a stay at home dad (13 years) Thanks..

Hi,
The minimum amount of qualifying years a person needs to qualify for a State Pension is 10 years. However, if you would like confirmation of your current State Pension entitlement, you can get a state pension forecast on the link below:
Check your State Pension forecast
If you wish to apply for National Insurance credits for periods your were a parent claiming child benefit, you can apply via the application forms below:
Home Responsibilities Protection
CF411 form (Periods 6 April 1978 and 5 April 2010)
You’ll have received HRP automatically if between 6 April 1978 and 5 April 2010 you were claiming:
  • Child Benefit for a child under 16
  • Income Support because you were looking after a sick or disabled person and were not available for work
You’ll need to apply for HRP if you think it’s missing from your National Insurance (NI) record.
Apply for National Insurance credits if you’re a parent or carer
CF411A form (Periods 5 April 2010-Current)
If you’re a parent or carer of a child under 12, you should automatically get credits if you claim Child Benefit.
If you or your partner are registered for Child Benefit you can:
  • apply for credits missing from your National Insurance record
  • transfer credits from a spouse or partner
If you’re a foster or kinship carer, you can apply for National Insurance credits. You’ll need to provide supporting evidence with your form.
Thank you
