I gave up work to look after my children in 2014 and did not claim child benefit because my husband was over the threshold. Can I claim National Insurance credits for the time I have not been working, and, if so, how? Thank you.

Hi,
If you or your partner have not claimed Child Benefit, no National Insurance credits are applicable.
If your husband was a high earner, you still needed to apply for Child Benefit.
You can check your National Insurance account via the Personal tax account: sign in or set up
To receive National Insurance credits, you need to be in receipt of the associated benefit that applies.
There is the option to pay voluntary National Insurance for any tax years where you have not been employed or in receipt of a benefit.
To pay voluntary National Insurance for older tax years 2006/07 to 2016/17, there is a deadline of 5 April 2025 – due to an increased demand you can also register an interest with the Department for Work and Pensions to ensure paying for older tax years will increase you state pension accordingly.
